Found it 7/31/2008 by Kabuthunk
I had almost passed this cache by today. After a surprisingly and unexpected quick find at a difficult cache a few minutes ago, I set myself upon a quest to make the event cache later this evening my 400th find. I had four more to go at this point. At first, I was on a bee-line to Assinaboine Park, but glancing at my GPS on the way, I found that this cache was only a few blocks out of the way!

I had a few moments of indecision whether to leave my path on the way to Assinaboine Park and go after this one, or whether to leave it and see if I could get all of them over there. Moments later, I swung into the turn-lane, and drove off towards Puppy Love. Being on a strict timeline (about 50 minutes to find four caches AND work my way back towards Stafford and Pembina), I was suddenly a bit worried when the road just... kept on going, and there didn't seem to be an entrance to the gravel road leading to the dog park (I somehow missed the one on the left, just before the turn). Looping around, I found the second entrance and swung into the parking lot.

There were only two other cars there, and I only saw one set of people with their dog, so bystander traffic wasn't much of a problem. Hopping out of the car, I headed straight for the coordinates, hoping not to have a 20-minute search on my hands.

Luck was with me! I didn't see it immediately since it blended into it's specific spot surprisingly well, but it only took about 15 seconds to locate the cache. A quick signing, and I clamped it shut. A few seconds later it was back from whence it came, and I was heading back towards the car.

And not a moment too soon! As I was approaching the car, another two vehicles were just arriving! Had I gotten there about a minute later, I would have had a whole pile of bystanders in the immediate vicinity, making inconspicuously getting to the cache nigh-impossible.

But alas... I got there earlier than them, and a find I did have. Only three more to go! It looks like my decision to make a detour to get this cache was a good one. I contemplated for a few moments plunging into the forest to get the "PI in the woods" cache, but I had a vague recollection that it was supposed to be harder to find and/or access. I also thought it was a micro for some reason, but looking at the cache page tells me I was wrong.

But I digress. After find number #396... that being this one... I got into my car and booked it to my next destination... on the way to Assinaboine Park! I ended up making a second well-chosen detour... perhaps the luck I had at this cache brought it on.

So thanks for placing the cache. Although I don't have a dog, if I did this would be a pretty good place to just unleash it and let it go wild. Perhaps have someone on the far end of the field and one on the near end getting it to run back and forth. But I'm more of a cat person... and it would have been scared stupid being around this many dogs ToungeOut.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball
