Yet another ICU cache off of the list. I'm not even sure how many in the series I've completed thus far . Not only that, but finding this one today makes this my 9th consecutive day of finding a cache... tying my old record. HURRAH !
Yes, I get easily excited about minor things .
I actually planned to hit this one today. It wasn't forcast to be a particularly nice day, and this time the forcast was actually pretty accurate. I know... it's rare... but every once in a blue moon... there ya go . This cache wasn't too far from work (about 3.5 km's or so... about the closest to work right now, sadly), so this was the one I was basically "saving" for when an 'eh' day came up during my attempt to beat my old consecutive record. Given I've found other ICU caches in the past, I figured that if it was still here, I'd find it.
I looped around and parked at Blockbuster. getting my pen/nanomail ball ready for a quick grab-sign-replace, I hopped out of the car and headed over. I spotted the cache nigh-instantly, but due to nearby traffic, I was unable to make the grab for a bit. I instead opted to wait for traffic to actually be moving, so people are forced to look forwards as opposed to being able to just sit at the red light and stare at the weird guy at the side of the roaed .
Giving the appearance of digging through my bag on the ground, I signed up the logbook and tossed in a nanomail ball. No problems. Even the random pedestrian walking by didn't pay me any attention... although their presence did get me to slow down and stay "digging in my bag" a little bit longer. Finally, I was able to close it up and put it back. Oh wait... not so fast... there's several cars stopped at the red light again! Bah... it being chilly out, and me without a jacket. Or more accurately, my jacket was in the car. Despite how idiotic I think the sigma is, and the fact that I love wearing it... I decided to not wear my trenchcoat while sauntering around by the side of the road. Unfortunately, many (if not most) people don't think like me, and view people wearing trenchcoats as inherently bad, and something to keep an eye on. Not what I want at the moment!
So I stood around, shivering a bit. Albeit it wasn't TOO bad out. I think it had actually warmed up from earlier in the day! Soon enough, traffic started moving again, and I was able to replace the cache from whence it came. Mission accomplished!
And as an added bonus, for the first time EVER, I on the same side of the street as the cache ! I know... bizarre! For once, I didn't have to cross the street a dozen times to get the cache and return to the car! Who knows... maybe my bad-luck streak has finally broken. That, or having mentioned exactly that has just cursed me a thousand times more . It probably helps that the most convenient, closest parking is on the same side of the road however.
Thanks for the cache! If not for this, I may not have even been able to tie (and hopefully tomorrow, beat) my old record for consecutive caching days. It turns out my second attempt at a find after this one was a DNF. But all I need is one to keep the streak alive .
Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and nanomail ball
