My second ICU cache to date! This one was actually a bit tricker to find too, and needed a little bit of "repair", for lack of a better word... which I took care of .
I can imagine why Tromelin had difficulties finding it though... I actually found it on the ground instead of it's normal type of hiding spot. I actually didn't even see it, directly. When I got to the area as a whole, I circled the obvious hiding spot, but didn't come across the cache. Feeling around a bit, my hands ran over a familiar-sized, familiar-shaped cache. It was half-buried in the dirt there. Playing around with it for a few seconds, I discovered that it wasn't... shall we say... "staying" in it's normal hiding spot. In fact, it seemed to have no urge whatsoever to stay in it's normal hiding method.
Opening it up, I found the problem. The process by which it stays in it's normal spot actually managed to be on the wrong side of the container! It was for some reason in the lid, as opposed to the main part of the container. A quick tap on the ground, and I was able to switch it around so that it would remain in the correct hiding spot.
With that out of the way, I found a place nearby (but not too close... don't need to draw unnecessary attention to myself) to write my name in the logbook and toss in a nanomail ball. Closing it up, I replaced the cache container, which I can confirm is now resting in the hiding style of the other ICU cache I've found (and the ICU that I found after this one). Mission accomplished. Two of these ICU caches in, and I still very much enjoy going after them .
Actually though, with this particular ICU cache, I was actually originally slightly annoyed by the fact that it was right here. I've actually been in the process of making a multi-puzzle cache, which would have involved the first point being about 20 meters from THIS cache. Y'see... embedded in the 'new' part of the sidewalk on the Southwest corner of the intersection, was a toonie. Someone must have stuck it into the wet cement when it was poured, and it was firmly stuck in the sidewalk, 'tails' side up I believe. Over the past week, I had grabbed the coordinates of it multiple times over different days to try to get accurate coords for it. I was going to have a puzzle of sorts where the question for those coordinates would be something like "how much is this location worth". It turns out that when I showed up today, it looks like someone managed to pry the toonie out of it's spot in the cement. Not sure if they chistled it out, or if a solid whack with a stick or something would have loosened it, but all that's there now is a small, circular indent in the cement. So it's win-win! I can't make my puzzle cache anyway now, but in it's place is THIS fun ICU cache instead .
Although right now, I'm really hoping that Tromelin had tried to find the cache BEFORE I got there. If he went there AFTER me, that would imply that some random bystander either saw me and went to investigate and take it, or otherwise someone came across it by chance and took it. Neither of those I'd want to happen... so yeah, hopefully Tromelin just didn't spot it on the ground.
So thanks again for the fun cache series. I'm guessing that you've been tagged by these dreaded corners in the past, but even if so... at least you channelled that anger and misery into making fun caches for all to find .
Took: Nothing (not that much would fit in there to begin with)
Left: Logbook entry and nanomail ball (one of the few things that can fit in there and not interfere with the log)
