This is our first. Nice place to go. |

Second cache of the day. I was feeling pretty good about my chances of finding caches today, after my last find managed to resolve a fairly difficult DNF. Thus, riding the wave of confidence, I headed on to the next cache. I had planned to spend a bit of today testing out the bikeability of this park. Since yesterday was the first time I had ever actually been to Kilcona park, I was wanting to get a feel for seeing if this park could become one of my "go-to" parks when I was in the mood to bike around.
Well, the answer for that one I think will end up being "eeehhh, kinda far away from home, but probably sitting in third place of the go-to parks". But that's entirely besides the point. Today I had specifically set out for this park (my SECOND visit ever to this park) to attempt to resolve a DNF, and do more geocaching as a whole. Much like yesterday, my wife came with me for the ride and to enjoy some outdoors, while I left her reading to go geocaching. Thus, bailing on my wife over at the shelter near the 'Don't Tread On Me' cache, I biked on over towards this one.
From this section of the park that I've seen so far, I've got to say it's pretty picturesque. I love the paved trails and the bridges going over the water (although other places in the park could REALLY stand to get a bridge or two), and quite enjoyed my several minutes of bike riding to take me towards ground zero. After following my meandering path, I left the paved trail and headed uphill! Kick it down a few gears, and I made short work of the slope leading up the general vicinity of the geocache. At first I got turned around a bit as to what direction I needed to head (it seems I do that a lot... damn right and left... so confusing!), I eventually got the numbers on the GPS to start counting down again . I headed in general towards the are where I figured the cache would end up being located. When I stopped the bike and turned my head, I was looking directly at what I could only assume was a geocache hiding spot. Since the cache was hidden in the middle of winter, I imagine it had significantly better hiding capabilities at the time of year than now. As of right now, it's preeeeetty unmistakable where its hiding spot is.
Looking around, I was happy to find myself completely alone in the area. Hopping off the bike I made my way to the assumed geocache, and was pleased that I was indeed correct. The geocache in hand, I opened it up and prodded through the contents. Not seeing anything that particularly caught my eye, I dropped in a chainmail ball and signed the logbook. All in all, this ended up being the fastest geocache of the day for me .
Having put everything back in the cache, I re-hid it as best I could with the materials around. I couldn't really improve on its camouflage much, but I did my best to attempt to make it look vaguely natural. Although I've definitely got to mental note this cache for if I have a somewhat larger travelbug that ever needs to be dropped off. Nice size of container for being this close to 'the beaten path' in the park! Thanks for giving me a nice, scenic bike ride through the bridgey area of the park. It was definitely relaxing going after this one .
Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball
