This was a spontaneous cache that the kids asked me to put out while we were out caching. Cache container was sitting in the car ready to go out and they asked if we could place it here. I thought sure why not. I didn't think there was anything that was too close, so off we went in search of a place to hide the cache. After a few minor scratches on my legs, arms and hands cache was hidden and we headed back to the car. Cache is in a reg sized camoed lock and lock container. Inside you'll find a logbook, FTF certificate, and some tradeables. There is no writing stick, so please be sure to bring your own. When trading please be sure to trade for items of equal value. Also please replace cache in the same location.

Y'know... I was wondering when someone would get around to placing a cache in this general vicinity. I've biked past this area multiple times in the past, and was always surprised to find the area devoid of caches. Glad to see that this has since changed in the past few months . I actually wasn't planning on going after this cache today... and in actuality didn't even know that it existed until a minute before going after it. I must have skimmed over the notification email that I would have received, since this is the 11th closest cache to my home... about 2km away.

However, today my wife and I had just come back from a different cache, eating some dinner at Perkins (gotta love their coffee and omelets), and finally were ending today's little venture by heading over to Shoppers Drug Mart to pick up a few various things. When I was getting out of the car after parking there, I glanced at the GPS to see if anything was nearby. Well hello, what do we have here? It looks like there's a cache just about in the parking lot itself! I gave my wife a heads up that after we were done shopping, I was going to make a minor detour before we headed home.

So one shopping trip later, and I swing the car to the end of the parking lot so that my wife has a quieter place to read. After all, given the option between attempting to read in the car in the middle of a busy parking lot, or with no other cars or sounds immediately beside you... I decided to let her have the second option. Anyway, I hopped out of the car and headed towards the coordinates. I quickly learned that the cache was NOT in fact in the parking lot (I at that first glance had thought that it would be somehow attached to the big Shoppers sign), and moments later corrected my direction to actually be going towards the coordinates. After pointing in the right direction, I had a hunch where the general vicinity of ground zero would be. My hunch turned out to be correct, and I soon found what would appear to have been the "entrance" of sorts to the area.

This is where it got a touch tricky. Given it was JUST raining earlier today, and was still drizzling to an extent, even the slightest movement of the branches there would unleash a torrential downpour of droplets to fall on me. After this happened the first time, quite successfully getting my hoodie nice and soaked, I attempted to touch no other branches, or failing that touch them as little as possible. Well... except that branch I already moved, it was now empty . It only took me a few seconds to find the cache, and so I opened it up and checked out the contents. Not seeing any tradeables that caught my eye, I signed up the logbook and tossed in a chainmail ball (just made today!) Since it seemed to be quite visible from my position just inside the "entrance", I moved it about 4 inches so that it would be a fair bit more hidden. Not exactly invisible mind you, but at least slightly less immediately visible. One way or another, the camouflage should hopefully hinder it being accidentally found by some bystander that stumbles across the area.

During this time, a dad and two kids had biked nearby, so I waited to see what they'd do (I figured they might be geocachers, and wanted to get ready to avoid accidentally startling them by jumping up at the wrong time). Turns out they were just biking, saw the dead end of sidewalk, and turned around. With the area completely empty, I emerged and made my way back to the car. Mission accomplished .
