Come to this event to help us celebrate OHMIC's 10,000th geocache find! He is the first geocacher in the province to hit this major milestone.
If you can supply a barbeque, bbq implements and fuel source, games, or anything else, please contact me so that I can keep track. When you post your "Will Attend", please indicate what you plan to bring for your potluck item, and how many people are in your party. |

Wow, this was quite the event, and I'm REALLY glad I could make it. However, since my work hours are from 9:30am to 6:00pm, I knew I might be missing some of the beginning of this event. Thus, to make things as fast as possible after work (aside from leaving as close to on time as possible, since I'm usually stuck 15 or so minutes late), I threw a t-shirt into my work bag at home in the morning (my work shirt wasn't particularly comfy, and would have been way too warm for outside), and grabbed my GPS while heading out for the day.
Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the chainmail shirt, and by the time I thought about it, I didn't want to waste the time to drive home and go back for it. Sorry everyone that expected to see that . And I don't think it would have been to warm if I was wearing smart clothing underneath, like a biking shirt that allows air to easily pass though.
Anyway, after work I headed on over to the park, hoping I wouldn't miss too much. It seems as though some other event was happening at the park, since there seemed to be an inordinate number of people there for a Thursday afternoon. This was later proven true by the sudden burst of people all leaving the park coincidentally at the same time as us... some other event must have ended at that time too. I arrived and found parking, and quickly made my way into the crowd of people where everyone was eating the various foods. Sorry I didn't bring anything... I didn't catch that part of the cache description, and was unaware it was potluck related. Given the quantity of food though, I don't think it was a problem. All the meat was gone by the time I arrived, so I suppose that sufficed as my punishment .
Soon arriving, I found myself meeting many a familiar face that it's been far too long since I've seen. *butterfly*, GG, Dani, ertyu, OHMIC of course, MuStash, and many others. Basically, I'd have to copy/paste a pile of cache names to list everyone I stood around and chatted with. Really nice catching up with people... makes me want to get out to more events more often. And it was additionally interesting to meet your son *butterfly*... didn't know I had so many admirers. Ahh, the powers of chainmail. And speaking of kids, it was nice to meet (and discover) you Gabalo9988... sorry, I don't recall your actual name. I'm generally terrible with names. You're really good with those devil sticks by the way (assuming you call them that... those juggling sticks go by like a dozen names... devil sticks being the most common one).
So most of the event was comprised of meeting up with geocachers that I haven't seen in a long time, meeting new people, general snacking, and a highly unexpected second to find on a geocache placed at the time of this event (more on that on that cache's log). Nonetheless, much chatting, hanging out, talking about geocaching, chainmail (everyone really seems to love the chainmail), snacking and general anything... my kinda event .
Once all of this slowly began to wrap up and the crowd started to dwindle (sorry I didn't get to talk to many of you... next event perhaps), the remaining people started to conglomerate together for a final congratulations to OHMIC, and the final cleanup. Unexpectedly, I took home not one TB as I had expected, but FOUR travelbugs and coins I was talked into. As well, I found myself the new owner of a tray of mini cupcakes (somewhat odd, since my wife by blind coincidence happened to be making mini cupcakes at home at this time). All in all, fun times, good catching up, and this event has given me an even stronger resolve to try to make it out to more events in the future .
Took: Assortment of 4 travelbugs/coins, of which I don't know the names quite yet, tray of cupcakes
Left: Chainmail ball with OHMIC. I think the logbook TB had migrated onwards by the time I was looking to sign it, but I'm pretty sure someone can vouch for me having attended

I've got this marked on my whiteboard, and am crossing my fingers that nothing sudden and drastic happens that hinders my showing up. I don't foresee any reason I won't be there, anyway.
