The wax seal spoon stand

Just something necessary

A wax seal kit, comprised of a plastic case with 24 different colours of wax, several sticks of a darker red beside, a lighter, plastic case for wax scraps, tealight candle, and brass spoon with a dark red wooden handle, sitting on scrap paperboard on a table. Behind the set is three potion bottles that have been wax sealed, a really good walk, Samhain full moon energy, and a swampy wind. And of course, the spoon is resting on a chainmaille stand.
I finally got a wax seal set on March 3rd, 2025, after finally getting tired of attempting to use sealing wax with just a candle or lighter, and the wax either lighting on fire or getting black soot in it, I finally decided to get a kit that includes a wax spoon, but primarily because I needed different colours to wax seal my potions. Though most would be my default kinda mahogany, cranberry red, some potions like swampy wind or Samhain full moon energy needed a different colour. It also gives me the option of having different colours for the shop's wax seal, though I still imagine wanting to use my default red. A complete wax seal set with 24 colours of wax, brass spoon, and tealight. Additional sealing wax in a darker mahogany red is beside, along with a lighter, little plastic case for scrap wax pieces, and three potion bottles already sealed in brown, green, and moon white wax, with the spoon sitting on its chainmaille stand.
I quickly realized that I needed a stand of some sort to rest the spoon on, if I needed to put it down for a second to grab something, or move something, or adjust something, or pretty much do anything with my hands while it's hot. Generally speaking you clean it with paper tower/tissue while it's hot (and it's generally cool by the time you're done), but in mid-process, I definitely needed a place to be able to set it down. Out comes the chainmaille. I figured, with the vague worry that heat would travel down the stand to the table, that with enough separate rings, that should be enough separation to avoid that. Also, it having a base made from three small scales, with the tips curved downwards so it's sitting on just the tip of each scale, that should eliminate that worry altogether. A closer view of the side of the stand, now sitting on the plastic waxes case, with three scales making up the bottom, and a variety of larger and smaller rings creating separation between the base and the spoon.
It took a lot of messing around with random ring sizes, wanting it to be rigid enough that it didn't collapse, and not so tight that the rings started opening up, and eventually stumbled across this format. We started with that three-scale base that I had kicking around for ages, and fanangled mostly 3/16" 18ga stainless steel rings, a few 3/8" 16ga rings, and a few others. Nothing is pulled too tight, yet the three outer rings that the spoon sits on sit upright at an angle, and cup the spoon almost perfectly. Very pleased with how this came out, this random assortment of rings for a needed stand.

The view of the stand from above, without the spoon, generally a circular amalgam of rings above the scale base, with three larger three eight inch rings making up the part that the spoon itself sits on.
