Ahh, the first cache of the day! I had decided that sometime this weekend, I'd pull a nice afternoon-long geocaching trip. Unfortunately, Saturday was a bit too busy, but Sunday was free and clear .
I happened to park all of about 30 meters from the cache. I didn't even realize it, since I didn't even look at my GPS until after I had parked at Assinaboine Park. At first I thought I had accidentally placed an arbitrary waypoint with a geocache icon by leaning on the GPS or something, but after zooming in, I discovered that said icon wasn't AT the pointer where I was, but very close! Time to break in the winter boots!
That's right... I've finally got some winter boots (as opposed to my infamous instant-winter-boots, usually of the Safeway or Sobeys variety ). Probably for the best I had them, since I must have ended up walking about 5km's today (a healthy chunk of it through untravelled drifts... some of which was immediatly between my car and this cache). Plunging into the drift at the side of the road, I worked my way towards the coordinates. Upon arriving at ground zero, I set to work doing a quick search. That is, of course, after making sure I was at least not directly being watched by someone. There was some photographer nearby, but they were pointed in the opposite direction.
After my initial skimming of the area turned up empty, I decided to try what I had a hunch would be what I was looking for. About 5 seconds later, it turned out I was correct . And lo, the cache name made perfect sense! The name kinda confused me a bit up until that point. Sweeping off an area of bench to sit on, the photographer still hadn't turned around, and I appear to have been successfully unspotted. Time to sign me some logbook!
Aaaand one logbook signing later, I lobbed in a micromail ball, and prepared to replace the cache as found. Peculiarily, the photographer STILL hadn't turned around (she must have REALLY been concentrating on getting the perfect picture of that building in the distance), so with noone else that I could see in the immediate vicinity, I set to work replacing the cache.
But what's this? It decided to fight with me! Not for long though... it took me about 10 seconds of fanangling to get that sucker back how I had found it. At least I wasn't standing there for like... 5 minutes fighting with it . With the cache successfully back in place, I unsurprisingly saw that the photographer STILL hadn't moved, and set off to find the next cache. I was sure to avoid walking in front of said photographer though. God help me if I tracked footprints into her view or something, the way she was concentrating on... whatever .
Thanks for the interesting cache! Although the nicer day meant more people around, it looks like I was lucky enough to have found a time when noone was immediately in the vicinity to go after it .
Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and micromail ball
