Weird, it seems like I'm following several 'tobans around as having been the last people to find the few caches I've gone after today .Then again, this IS the major throughfare to get from Manitoba to Ontario, so it just stands to reason. This ended up being my last cache of the day.My wife and I had spent most of the day so far either in Kenora, or at a tiny beach called Norman Park beach closer to Kenora. One of the primary purposes of our trip was to try to get something from the LCBO in Kenora, since some things carried in Ontario are not carried in Manitoba. So having found only one of the two items we were looking for at the Kenora store, we figured we'd try our luck at this one... which is pretty much the reason for stopping here to begin with.
Well, turns out this particular LCBO had far less than any others I've seen, but hey... looking at the GPS it seems as though there's a cache right nearby! It's listed as 'regular' size, so I hoped that there would be a good chance of fitting a TB into it that I have been trying to find a place... a CD-sized travelbug.Alas, this cache couldn't quite cut it for size (personally, I'd consider this a 'small' sized cache, but that's just me).But... back to the hunt. After my wife and I found nothing that we wanted at the LCBO, she waited in the car while I attempted to find the cache. My first thoughts as to where the cache would be hidden was completely wrong evidently, so I began to expand my search out a bit further. After about 10 minutes of getting uncomfortably damp (it seems that it rained fairly recently, so all of the leaves were dripping water onto me throughout this), I stepped to the side to read the cache description and previous logs. The hint gave me an idea of what to look for, but much like Trove Chasers said, the previous logs were by far the most help. And I too don't know if I could consider this 'winter friendly'.It could be that I'm just unfamiliar with how the snow piles up around here though. The terrain rating also seems rather high for such a location.Due to that and the winter friendly attribute, I almost get the feeling this cache was supposed to have been placed somewhere else slightly... perhaps the first place I looked (although I can't see how this container would fit there).But... not knowing one way or the other, it's been replaced back as it was found.
So after reading the previous logs, I began my hunt anew, keeping my eyes more in a certain direction than others.Eventually, I finally stumbled across the cache container! It was very well hidden, I'll give it that. The coordinates were fairly accurate, but yeah... really well hidden in there!Of course, having searched in this particular location, I managed to get even more damp throughout the hunt.At least the sun was starting to come out at long last.At that point, I realized that it would never hold the travelbug, but nonetheless I opened it up and signed up the logbook.I didn't notice offhand that there was another geocoin hiding in here, so sorry about not picking that up to move it along.
All that said and done, I replaced the cache and once again gave it some natural camouflage as requested by the cache owner. After a few moments, I was pleased enough with the re-hiding results, and returned to my wife and the long drive back to Winnipeg. The third and last cache under my belt for the day, and it was time to go home.I actually held off on finding further caches today, because I had apparently mis-remembered how many caches I'd found, and was holding back to pick number 700 specifically.Turns out I'll still be 3 caches away after this one, but oh well... at least I managed to find several Ontario caches
Thanks for giving us an extra cache to tackle along the way.I'm not sure how many others went after this particular one because of the LCBO, but whatever works I suppose .
