[Wooh! After the somewhat disappointing DNF yesterday, I'm definitely glad I was able to get out and do a bit more geocaching today. Today's caching wasn't particularly bountiful, but I guess that's what happens when you sleep right the hell in, lazily make your way out of the apartment, and then call it quits early-ish due to being hungry and not wanting to fight the wind any more .
I actually started out today going after a slightly DIFFERENT Pa_Bottle cache, however the log for that one wasn't posted prior to this, since I went back to it several times and generally count my "last" visit of the day as being the caching time. Thus, this one gets first loggings today. Anyways, after lazily working my way outdoors as I mentioned, I worked my way over to St. Vital mall in the specific hopes of getting a few of the PB series. I've been neglecting them for far too long, and there's just too many of them too close to me to procrastinate from finding any longer . Also, since it's Sunday, I figured that I might get lucky and not have too much of a crowd around the more... conspicuous locations. I realize that the fact that it's the weekend doesn't really help me out in that regard, but I was hoping the wind gusting to almost 40km/h might keep people inside.
Evidently, it kept many people inside the mall. But hey, still works... less people walking to the mall or being in and around the sidewalks helped out at least .
So having parked my car at the mall (for the first attempt at a different PB cache), I had taken a break from that other location to head over here. My general theory is to not spend too long in one high-traffic cache location... so if there's another cache nearby that I can visit to avoid drawing undue attention to the other spot... all the better. I've passed by this cache countless times as well. Most times without the GPS, and when I did have the GPS, I was usually on the way somewhere, already at the end of my available geocaching time. It's nice to finally be able to tackle it.
Once I reached the general area of ground zero, I did a quick skim with just my eyes, hoping to spot something. If I could make this fast and easy, all the less conspicuous. Alas, I spotted nothing. Now, in my last visit with Pa_Bottle (mentioned here in paragraph 2), he had told me that he hid some of his caches in a certain manner. My first thought at this point was... check that specific manner. It was a bit further from the coordinates, but who knows... the caching gods could be playing havoc with my signal today again. THAT spot turned up empty, so I returned to ground zero, and checked around. I discovered something which I thought may have been the cache. However, it was... well...] fairly sturdy. [Fearing that what I had found wasn't the cache, and that I was... retrieving something not meant to be retrieved, I stopped what I was doing and checked my palm pilot for the description and last few logs.
Hmm... the description implied I may well have been correct. I re-checked said discovery, and BINGO! Cache found . It was just...] really solidly in place. [One quick signing later, and the cache was back from whence it came. Thanks for getting a cache out in the area that I'm actually able to find on the first attempt finally . Seems your caches like to remain elusive for me.
