Should be a fairly easy find, but could take a bit of hunting. This location was close to the best friend of the summer time parent in the city, the Children's Museum. A fun place for kids of all ages(adult and younger alike), the museum is located in the scenic Forks National Park, which is looking less and less like a park every year. Look for a smallish round container, not the reported square container nearby that is not a submitted cache. Congrats to ESP Browns for the FTF!

WOOH! This geocache has been plaguing the back of my mind for quite a while now... specifically since I noticed its existence during the 2010 Dragonboat races. Ever since back in 2008 when I got a DNF at the NB in the forks cache, I've been leery of any cache in this general vicinity. The pedestrian traffic is always crazy, I feel conspicuous as hell if it involves 'tunnelling' through there (which although conspicuous-feeling, was amazingly fun in summer), and I just never had luck with that one, so this area had become a 'bad luck spot' in my mind. Adding to that feeling was back during the aforementioned Dragonboat races when I walked past the area to scope it out and found it (unsurprisingly, given it was the friggin' DRAGONBOAT RACES that day) crammed with people in general.

I was JUST about to pass on it today when I thought 'y'know? With the construction on the Children's Museum keeping people away from here, combined with the chilly breeze keeping people from going for walks as a whole, combined with the extremely slippery (or just beside that, 1.5 inch deep water) path that used to be a skating rink, combined still with the fact that the Forks closes in a half-hour from when I was here, I think I might just get away with there being no pedestrians around. And hey... winter = less leaves, so I might actually be able to pull this off! With that, I slowly trod my way over the ridiculously slippery path until I neared ground zero. As predicted, not a soul could be seen in any direction. This area was at about the most desolate place I've seen at the Forks ever... excellent!

Walking over towards ground zero, I soon found an abundance of footprints in the area, and the red dirt from the ground trailing over towards ground zero itself. Well hell... looks like this cache may just about find ITSELF for me here.

As it turns out, that's pretty accurate .

Following the footprints, it took me approximately 5 seconds to spot the cache container (the round one mentioned in the description... I didn't see any others there offhand). But seriously, this container is like... ridiculously visible. It would be far more hidden in summer, but as of right now, with the red geotrail atop the white snow leading directly to it, I'm honestly surprised it's even still here. Seeing as I had the place entirely to myself, I carefully grabbed the container to avoid adding to the trail, and parked myself in a cleanish spot to go through it. I didn't notice the travelbug in there unfortunately, but I signed the logbook and tossed in a chainmail ball. Closing it back up, I found myself wondering how best to hide the container, since I didn't want to leave it quite as visible as I had found it.

I as well didn't really want to move it at all from its current spot. Thus, I was left with putting the cache back into its spot, but manoevering the container itself slightly in a vain attempt to get it at least slightly more hidden. I accomplished this end at least slightly, but it doesn't take more than a quick glance or two to realize that there's something right there. I'm not entirely sure how best to resolve this... the cache owner may want to consider moving it like... 3 feet one way or the other. Upon reading the previous logs (I was unable to earlier due to my palm pilot's battery being dead), it looks like a previous cacher did exactly that, so in retrospect I probably should have done something similar. Oh well... hindsight is 20/20 and all that.

All in all though, I'm very pleased with having been able to find a geocache in what was previously my 'bad luck spot' so quickly. I had visions of this cache plaguing me for like, an hour today or something. And yeah, in summer this cache would likely put up a lot more of a fight .
