Man, I've gotta go to events more often. Definitely fun to have been here . Unfortunately, my wife couldn't make it, since she had a friend's party that was also booked for today. But at least I could make it (and almost get stuck in the snowdrift when trying to leave), and eat very tasty and filling food.
By the way... whoever brought the lasagne... that was awesome . Same goes for the potato-cheese casserole.
So when I arrived, I was quite confused as to what was all happening, and how it was supposed to happen (this being my first MBGA christmas party). At least when I arrived, I recognized a few faces, and so was able to confirm that I was in the right place (whew). As I rammed my car into the snowbank of a parking-lot, I noticed in the rear-view mirror that a healthy number of people were just waiting outside the doors of the church. I thought it a bit peculiar that the church wouldn't open it even a single minute early to let people in out of the cold, but hey... who am I to judge.
Once the doors opened, I clumped my way through the snow to the church. At that point, everything started shifting into high-gear. I put my food in the kitchen (I hope at least a few people liked the dumplings with garlic. We grew up on that meal CONSTANTLY in the country. Ahh, garlic... it burns so good ), and helped put tables and chairs into place. In no time flat, all the tables were there and covered in tablecloths. After a bit of meeting and greeting other geocachers (and playing with the various assortments of geocoins on the table near the entrance... especially interesting being OHMIC's massive capable-of-bludgeoning-someone-to-death-because-they're-so-big geocoins), the call was made for getting food. And what a layout! Tons of food of many varying types. The line migrated slowly, but there was more than enough for everyone, and a lot left over at the end! Much eating and chatting had by all.
I wasn't entirely sure how the present thing would work either, but it quickly fell into place. So... many... item-trades! In the end, I received an incense-burning kit (currently doing its job in my room here). But yeah... that just kept going. One person behind me (sorry, can't remember your name) kept having items stolen from her a half-dozen times. At least in the very end, you got what you wanted thanks to the rock-cache I was holding at the time .
It was also nice to meet trailmaker 62, having come waaaaay out from Nova Scotia. I'm quite glad that you were able to hang onto that MBGA patch and Manitoba geocoin in the present trade. If there was ever one present that was suitable for you, that was definitely it .
After the feast and present-trading was much chatting and catching up on times with fellow cachers. I saw a fair number of new people there today (or I just can't remember meeting them... my memory tends to be crap at times ), and a number of familiar faces. Ahh, good times, good times.
Oh, and Cache and Cary... puzzle cache... mine... you can solve it if you believe you can solve it! I've usually always got my string with me... just say the word, and I can give you a hand with the figure. It's easier than you think. Don't fear the puzzles... they only want to be your friend !
And while I'm at it... GG... you were commenting that I wasn't wearing any chainmail at the time. Only later on did I remember that I technically WAS wearing some chainmail. A titanium finger-ring made from 216, 24-gauge, 5/64" diameter rings. Check out the pic at that link at least... it's pretty insane to see the size of the single rings against the size of a penny.
But I digress. Good times, good food, good friends .
Took: Wagonmaker's Ontario Geocoin and Chain of Life TB
Left: Logbook entry (in Manitoba Party Animal logbook) and macro micro chainmail ball

Let's bring my chainmail-wrapped geocoin with me for this one. It's been a while since any event I've managed to get to, let alone remember to bring this with me.
Hence... coin drop.

Ok, moreso confirmed that I'll be there barring any unforseen emergencies. I didn't realize until now one had to register on the mbga homepage for this, so I'm doing that now. May not need the oven at all, but it IS a heated dish in general, so we'll see.
Although, I'll warn you... I like to get weird, non-traditional gifts... so don't go expecting a box of chocolates

This sounds pretty sweet. I'll try to make it, but not knowing my work on-call schedule, I'll have to see closer to the day if I'm stuck working that weekend or not.
