I'm not entirely sure what to say about this event... I was kinda hoping there'd be more benchwarmers like me to chat with while others were bowling . Alas, there was only a small handful. Course, what also didn't help was that I recognized like... 2% of the people there. It seems as though there's significantly more people coming to geocaching events these days... thus the reason I've been wanting to get out to more events these days. However, with the lights turned down most of the time there, it made recognizing people quite difficult.
Things were pretty crazy in there from the get-go. When I first showed up (my wife was dropping me off), I at first didn't even know if I had the right place. Despite having updated my GPS several weeks ago (kinda missed a Friday's update), the event wasn't showing up (or perhaps it was originally posted at a different location... no idea which). I could have sworn it was at Dakota Lanes, so I decided to make a quick jog inside to check it out, and then would go back to the car to let her know it was good. By blind chance, I happened to run into OHMIC who was on the way out, and he confirmed I had the right place. Accidentally startling the hell out of my wife going back to the car (mental note... opening the door suddenly when she's not expecting it and didn't see me approach is not a good idea ), I let her know and headed upstairs.
Taking off my shoes, I was quickly greeted by glacier_ice and one of his ice cubes (who actually knocked down a few pins while bowling later on). Working my way over to an empty table-ish thing, I chillaxed there, watching everything that was going on. Unfortunately, since I associate bingo bowling with an office party where the party organizer has no clue what people actually like doing, and thus thinks everyone loves bingo bowling. I’ve never known another office worker who enjoys it, but we always go “because the bosses will be there” type thing . Thankfully, this event would at least be a lot less formal than such occasions.
I had showed up around 12:30, so apparently most people were already established at lanes and whatnot. However, not recognizing most people, I have no idea if that entire side was all geocachers, or only several lanes. Still have no idea . Eventually, I chatted a bit with Wagonmaker, and was introduced to several people interesting in learning the intricacies of my string-figure cache (I apologize, I don't recall your names... I'm terrible with names, especially when I haven't gotten to know you). You two clearly recognized me from my picture in said string-figure cache, so feel free to drop me a line if you want more info on that.
Otherwise, I chilled there and chatted with whoever happened by, and messed around with a Rubik's Cube (I had the cache container itself here to show off somewhat, but things were too busy for more random stuff). After cake, my wife came along to pick me up... unfortunately right after the cake, but before I could teach some string-figure techniques. Ah well... another day.
But yeah… it was a pretty relaxing afternoon for me. Listening to music, watching people enjoy themselves (which is perfectly fine for me… I’ve always enjoyed being a spectator of activities than a player). A little bit of chatting, a little bit of cake, and general hanging out with other geocachers… can’t go wrong.
Took: Lina’s Travelbug
Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball (given to another geocacher who was chatting it up with me)
