Well, I must admit that the name makes significantly more sense now that Wikipedia has gotten involved ToungeOut. Then again, I somewhat expected it to mean as such, but still… that’s now fully confirmed. And this cache has been dwelling on my ‘to-do’ list for quite a while now. Hmm… seems to be a good week for me… I’ve been going on a massive finding of a pile of things that I’ve had my eye on for a while. In either case, this one happened to be next on my list, if not out of convenience.

I had just finished checking up on my own cache that was vaguely nearby, and figured that to be the perfect opportunity to go after this cache. I have the week off of work, which has been giving me ample time to catch up on various things and take care of stuff I’ve put off for way too long. Well, my cache is still in top-notch condition, so on to more entertaining ventures… finding some new geocaches! Working my way down the new greenway path, I soon found myself at the intersection of paved to dirt path. Ahh, dirt path… I took my bike down you many a time even before this greenway was built.

However, I had to try to move quickly. My GPS was showing zero bars of battery life left (not even sure how that happened… last I turned it off, I could have sworn it had 3 out of 4 bars showing, but oh well). But still, it soldiered on, drinking what little dribbles of power were stuck in the corners of the battery ToungeOut. At first I figured the cache might be in one of several places, and soon found a bit of a trail of sorts where it seems like people have walked. I had one last glance down at the GPS telling me I was about 8 meters away, and then… nothing. That last glimpse of the distance was the final vestige of battery life, and the GPS finally gave out and keeled over.

Alright… I COULD just swap out the batteries with one of the multiple sets of spares I keep in my geocaching kit… OR, I could just wing it from there. Well, winging it involved me using less effort, so I went with that ToungeOut. My first few potential spots in a type where I had previously seen geocaches hidden turned out to be false. However, it looks like the footprints are still leading me onwards. Somewhat following them (a bit difficult, since they’re kinda all over the place), I came upon what would have been my second guess at a hiding spot.

Well, imagine my surprise when I spotted the cache, but not in the way that I was anticipating finding it. Nice hide! I’ve seen several others hidden in this manner, but I think this one looks the most authentic thus far of them. I imagine a fair amount of effort has gone into it, so hopefully it’ll last winter. There’s a possibility that I’d snowshoe over the area in winter, so I’ll make a specific note to avoid snowshoeing around this particular spot at least, if I even make it out to here… my usual locations tend to dwell either closer to home, or Bird’s Hill park and the like.

In either case, thanks for the interesting geocache, and giving me an added objective while doing a checkup on my own cache Smile.
